Ceremony today at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Wainwright
Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) has the honor of speaking at the Fort Wainwright 2013 Asian/Pacific American Heritage Observance today
at 1:30 p.m.
May has been observed as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month since 1978. This is an opportunity for communities around the nation to celebrate and
honor the hard work, achievements, and cultural contributions of Asian Pacific Americans. Fort Wainwright will be honoring the month by recognizing the long history of committed service from Asian Pacific Americans to the United States armed services.
“Asian Pacific Heritage Month is important because it offers us an opportunity to recognize Asian Pacific Americans who have contributed to the shaping
and defense of our great nation,” said Rep. Kawasaki. “Our future is shaped by our past and we must not forget the leadership and commitment from Asian Pacific Americans to our armed services throughout our country’s history.”
Rep Kawasaki notes, “I am honored to have the opportunity to speak at the Fort Wainwright Asian/Pacific American Heritage Observance ceremony. Asian
Americans and Pacific Islanders and the rich cultural diversity they bring to the armed services strengthen our military. And America’s military is the strength of the nation.”
The ceremony will commence at 1:30pm at the Physical Fitness Center(PFC) gym, 3709 Southgate and Meridian located at Fort Wainwright.
