It’s Construction Season!

Dear Friends, Neighbors, and fellow Fairbanksans:

Hope you are enjoying the Fairbanks summer so far. For this e-news, I just wanted to update folks on the construction projects happening in Fairbanks this summer.

Road Construction Projects in Fairbanks this Summer

Here’s a map and descriptions of 11 projects planned for the Fairbanks area.

1.)   FAIRBANKS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SECURITY UPGRADES • Upgrading Fairbanks International Airport security for compliance.

2.)   CHENA RIDGE CRIPPLE CREEK CULVERT REPLACEMENT • Replacing the existing culvert on Chena Ridge Road at the existing Cripple Creek ditch; installing a new culvert under Chena Ridge Road.

3.)   UNIVERSITY AVENUE REHABILITATION AND WIDENING • Expanding the intersection of Geist Road/Johansen Expressway in preparation for future construction work on University Avenue.

4.)    FARMERS LOOP RESURFACING • Resurfacing Farmers Loop Road; upgrading signage, lighting, culverts, guardrails, signal modifications and modifying the permanent traffic recorder; resurfacing University Avenue from College Road to Thomas Street.

5.)    FARMERS LOOP SIGNAL INTERCONNECT • Constructing a fiber-optic signal interconnect system along Farmers Loop from College Road to the Ballaine Road.

6.)   FAIRBANKS AREA SIGNAL UPGRADES STAGE I • Updating signal modifications at multiple intersections throughout the Fairbanks area.

7.)   FMATS AREA SURFACE UPGRADES • (Please note that these projects are not included on the map above.) Resurfacing roads with new asphalt and performing minor sidewalk repairs in areas throughout Fairbanks and North Pole. North Pole locations include: Badger Road and Santa Claus sidewalks, Doughchee Avenue, H & H Road, Perimeter Drive, and more; Fairbanks locations include: Cowles Street, 10th Street, and more; Rural locations include: McKinley View Drive, Valley View Drive, and Old Chena Ridge Road.

8.)   PHILLIPS FIELD ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS • Constructing safety improvements on Phillips Field Road between Jack Lindsey Lane and Driveway Street; upgrading the shoulders; relocating utilities and minor road realignment; constructing a safety edge, updating drainage, signage and striping

9.)   FAIRBANKS NOBLE STREET UPGRADE • Reconstructing Noble Street from Gaffney Road to First Avenue; repaving the road; replacing sidewalks, curbs and gutters; installing a new storm drain system and upgrading intersection signal system.

10.) STEESE EXPRESSWAY TO FRONT STREET BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN PATH • Constructing a bicycle/pedestrian path from the Steese Expressway to Front Street in the Graehl Park area.

11.) BIRCH HILL BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN FACILITY• Constructing a bicycle/pedestrian path along Birch Hill Road to allow safe access to the Birch Hill Recreational Trail System.
