Dear Neighbors, This week, my constituents should be receiving a copy of my State Budget & Fiscal Policy Newsletter in their mailboxes. You can find a PDF version here. This newsletter is an update on the state’s operating and capital budgets for the new fiscal year, which began on July 1, and fiscal policy legislation that passed this session, including the latest on your Permanent Fund Dividend. Please feel free to share your feedback and questions anytime. Rising Crime in Anchorage Last week, the Anchorage Daily News started a series of stories on rising crime rates in the community, including the latest numbers of car thefts and drug seizures (link here to find all the articles). Both my son and I had our vehicles stolen and damaged in recent months, so I understand firsthand how detrimental and disruptive this is for our neighbors—and frightening. As I work with local and state criminal justice agencies, I will provide another update on criminal justice reform later this summer. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me with your experiences and any questions or comments you have on public safety in your neighborhood. Rep. Tuck meeting with neighbors. Location Change for Tuesday Coffee with Chris Meetings Due to a change in hours of operation at my regular location for Coffee with Chris, I will be holding my regular Tuesday 7:00-7:30am coffee meetings at Caffe D’Arte, located at 223 E. Dimond Blvd. This is a chance for you to meet with me casually over coffee as we start the day. Come by with any questions, ideas, or comments. I would be happy to see you. If you are unable to make it, please feel free to contact my office by phone or email. Independence Day Festivities Happy birthday, USA! On Wednesday, July 4, there are some great events around town. Click here for a schedule of events on the Delaney Park Strip for the annual celebration. If you’re traveling elsewhere for the holiday, here’s a list of events around the state. This Independence Day, I hope you will join me in reflecting on the sacrifice of thousands of people who helped found our nation 242 years ago. We have the oldest constitution in the world, and many countries base their government on ours. We are in forever debt to the millions of service members and supporting civilians and families who have helped protect and defend our nation and constitution ever since. I hope you enjoy a safe holiday with your friends and family. Veterans and firefighters unfurl American Flag in Juneau during the legislative session. Warm regards,
