Dear Friends and Neighbors,
It's Good To Be Home!
Now that session has ended and we're home, I'm looking forward to seeing you around the neighborhood and over the next few weeks at summer neighborhood events! We are back in my Anchorage office and look forward to continue working for you! Our interim team is Legislative Director Diana Rhoades (picture left) and Constituent and Community Liaison Magdalena Oliveros (picture right). Please stop by and say hi! Our address is 1500 West Benson Blvd. #422. You can also call or email me at (907) 269-0144 or Rep.Geran.Tarr@akleg.gov
Some of Our Summer Plans:
Oil and Gas Working Group
Although session ended a couple of weeks ago, we still have working groups and committees that will be actively meeting over the course of the summer. I'm hopeful that through the work of the Oil and Gas Working Group, established by House Bill 111, that Representatives Josephson, Talerico, Grenn, Lincoln, and I together with Senators Giessel, Stedman, Micicche, Wielechowski, and Von Imhof can come together to analyze the state's fiscal regime for oil and gas, review the state's current tax structure and rates for oil and gas produced within the state, and find ways to have a system that works better for Alaska. I'm always thankful for input from you, on these important issues that impact the future of our state, so please reach out to my office with comments.
House Resources Food Security Subcommittee
During the 2018 interim, the House Resources Food Security Subcommittee, made up of the House Resources Committee members, will be meeting to create priorities for what our state can do to build a stronger food economy. Alaskans spend $1.9 billion dollars annually on food produced outside the state, and supply disruptions threaten our food security. Even small changes can reap huge rewards. Our first meeting will be coming up soon, for more information, please get in touch with my Anchorage office.
Last Week's Events:
Anchorage Cricket League
I had a great time last Saturday presenting the Anchorage Cricket League with a Legislative Citation honoring them for being community leaders who are part of the reason why our district is so great. They play throughout the summer at Dave Rose Park on Saturday mornings, hopefully I'll see you there! Senator Tom Begich and I have been attending events over the last few years and getting a chance to be outside, learn about the game of cricket, while having fun really is the highlight of our weekends. If you have any questions about getting involved in the league or upcoming games, please reach out! We'll be able to get you the information you need.
Nunaka and City View Little League
Last week, Terrell Paul invited me to speak at the opening ceremonies of the Nunaka and the City View Little League! Seeing these young athletes have fun on a Saturday morning really brightened my weekend. There are some great volunteering opportunities coming up this summer for those interested. People are needed to manage the snack and sugar shacks at Davenport Field and Nunaka Valley. If this seems like a good fit for you, please reach out to Elsa Vitug by phone or email at (907) 632-8070 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

All my best,
P.S. Now is a great time to share that policy idea or neighborhood project need so we can help research your ideas and see what is possible. Most legislation I've sponsored in the past, from Erin's Law (suggested by Russian Jack neighbor Brian Whittle) to Safe Walk to Schools (requested by Clark Middle School students to create an alcohol free zone around schools) to Food Stamp Access (suggested by Russian Jack neighbor Ed Leach) has been the idea of a neighbor. We'd love to help turn your idea into legislation. Please get in touch!
