NEWS: Legislation Signed to Help the Military and National Guard in Alaska

Anchorage – Today, a series bills to further modernize Alaska’s military code were signed into law during a ceremony in Anchorage. Representative Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage) worked cooperatively with the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Department of Defense on the much-needed statutory changes to support and protect Alaska’s service members.

Bill Signed to Expand Military Hiring Preference to Private Businesses in Alaska

Fairbanks – A bill to expand job opportunities for veterans and members of the National Guard was signed into law today during a signing ceremony in Fairbanks. House Majority Leader Rep. Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage) sponsored House Bill 2 at the request of the United States Department of Defense, which has made it a priority to get legislation passed in all 50 states allowing private businesses to offer a military hiring preference.

Rep. Tuck’s Community Connection: Great Bills Signed into Law

This week, Senate Bill 63 was signed into law, which will ban smoking tobacco, marijuana, and electronic cigarettes inside places of employment statewide. The bill mirrors local laws already in place in Anchorage and other cities. About half of Alaskans already live in communities that have chosen to prohibit indoor smoking in public, so this bill would extend to the rest of the state.
