NEWS: Alaska House Moves to Fix Alaska’s Flawed Oil Tax Credit System

Juneau – The Alaska House of Representatives today passed legislation to reform Alaska’s flawed and unsustainable system of oil and gas subsidies. Without changes, the State of Alaska is projected to pay out more in oil tax credits in Fiscal Year 2018 than the state will take in from production taxes. Production tax revenue used to be Alaska’s leading source of revenue.

NEWS: Representative Louise Stutes Introduces Bill to Modernize Alaska’s Fish Habitat Protection and Permitting Law

Juneau – On Monday, Representative Louise Stutes (R-Kodiak) introduced House Bill 199, the “Wild Salmon Legacy Act.” The bill updates Alaska’s fish habitat protection and permitting law to create a balanced and efficient permitting system that protects Alaska’s wild salmon runs, promotes responsible development, and gives Alaskans a greater voice in major permitting decisions that impact wild salmon streams.

NEWS: Conflict of Interest Update for Members of the Boards of Fisheries and Game Passes the Alaska House

Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives passed legislation sponsored by Representative Louise Stutes (R-Kodiak) to ensure that the expertise of members of the Alaska Boards of Fisheries and Game is not excluded from the deliberative process. Currently, members of the boards with conflicts of interest are not allowed to vote and not allowed to offer input to the process. House Bill 87 changes the Ethics Act to allow those members to participate in the process while still being excluded from voting.
