Juneau – On Monday, Representative Louise Stutes (R-Kodiak) introduced House Bill 199, the “Wild Salmon Legacy Act.” The bill updates Alaska’s fish habitat protection and permitting law to create a balanced and efficient permitting system that protects Alaska’s wild salmon runs, promotes responsible development, and gives Alaskans a greater voice in major permitting decisions that impact wild salmon streams.

NEWS: Conflict of Interest Update for Members of the Boards of Fisheries and Game Passes the Alaska House

Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives passed legislation sponsored by Representative Louise Stutes (R-Kodiak) to ensure that the expertise of members of the Alaska Boards of Fisheries and Game is not excluded from the deliberative process. Currently, members of the boards with conflicts of interest are not allowed to vote and not allowed to offer input to the process. House Bill 87 changes the Ethics Act to allow those members to participate in the process while still being excluded from voting.

NEWS: Responsible Budget Passes the Alaska House of Representatives

JUNEAU – The Alaska House of Representatives today formally passed a fully funded operating budget for Fiscal Year 2018 that ensures the delivery of essential services and protects the Alaska economy. The $5.1 billion General Fund operating budget reduces spending on agency and statewide operations by a net of $82.5 million compared to the 2017 budget, even after Governor Bill Walker’s vetoes.

NEWS: Congratulations to Musher Mitch Seavey on a Record-Breaking Iditarod Victory

Juneau – The members of the Alaska House Majority Coalition congratulate Mitch Seavey and his dog team on their record-breaking Iditarod victory today. Seavey arrived in Nome at 3:40 this afternoon with an official time of 8 days, 3 hours, 40 minutes, and 13 seconds. He shattered the old speed record set last year by his son Dallas Seavey, who is a four time Iditarod champion.
