NEWS: Congratulations to Musher Mitch Seavey on a Record-Breaking Iditarod Victory

Juneau – The members of the Alaska House Majority Coalition congratulate Mitch Seavey and his dog team on their record-breaking Iditarod victory today. Seavey arrived in Nome at 3:40 this afternoon with an official time of 8 days, 3 hours, 40 minutes, and 13 seconds. He shattered the old speed record set last year by his son Dallas Seavey, who is a four time Iditarod champion.

Greetings from Juneau this 56th day of session. It was a long week for the House Finance Committee, and we are preparing for another long week of floor sessions. In Finance we spent 20 hours considering 330 amendments to the operating budget. Many of the amendments would have taken certain parts of the budget back to FY16 levels without accurately taking into account other changes or reductions the departments already made to other parts of their budget.

I wanted to send out a reminder for public testimony on the Operating Budget which starts Thursday 1-3:30pm for District 31 (overflow is on Saturday 3-5p or email anytime to HouseFinance@akleg.gov ). The subcommittees’ proposed amendments have all been voted on in House Finance and today they will be incorporated into a new Committee Substitute for HB 57 Operating Budget. Greetings from Juneau this 42nd day of session. It is going to be a busy week in House Finance. We started hearing subcommittee reports and amendments last week and will continue today and tomorrow. After all the amendments are voted on, a new draft of the bill will be created and the week will close out with three full days of public testimony. District 31 public testimony is on March 2.
