As the 90-day legislative session nears the halfway point, the House is closing in on the budget and spending priorities. House Finance Subcommittees considered proposals to eliminate, modify or enhance items based on the Constitution and input from Alaskans. The House Finance Committee will consider subcommittee recommendations and take statewide public testimony next week before making final changes and ratifying a budget.

Last week was a big week in Juneau: two bills central to the Alaska House Majority Coalition’s fiscal policy platform were introduced, my Pre-Kindergarten bill was heard the first time and I added an amendment to Survivor Benefits legislation to include coverage for families of fallen correctional officers, probation officers and others that were originally included in last year’s bill I supported.
