It’s been another great and exciting week here in the Capitol. We continue to work hard to find solutions to our fiscal crisis while keeping our state going in a positive direction. At this point in the session we’re seeing some of our ideas gaining traction. Our bills are advancing through the committee process on their way to the floor. Being a member of the new majority, I’m proud to see a number of my own bills moving forward.

JUNEAU – Today, Senate Democratic Leader Berta Gardner (D-Anchorage), and House Resources Committee Co-Chair Rep. Andy Josephson (D-Anchorage) introduced SB44 and HB99, allowing the state to release to the public critical information about our investments in the form of oil tax credits. With passage of the legislation, companies filing for credits would provide a basic description, overall purpose, and general location of these expenses as a condition of participation in our generous credit program.

I hope you are having a great new year and that this newsletter reaches you! I’ve made it down to Juneau and have lots to report from my first full week of session. It has been a big and welcome change to finally be in the House Majority with the new coalition (officially called the House Majority Coalition) and it’s been quite the honor to serve as co-chair of House Resources Committee. I know this session will go well if we are all cooperative, conscientious, and diligent in finding solutions for Alaska.
