NEWS: Congratulations to Musher Mitch Seavey on a Record-Breaking Iditarod Victory

Juneau – The members of the Alaska House Majority Coalition congratulate Mitch Seavey and his dog team on their record-breaking Iditarod victory today. Seavey arrived in Nome at 3:40 this afternoon with an official time of 8 days, 3 hours, 40 minutes, and 13 seconds. He shattered the old speed record set last year by his son Dallas Seavey, who is a four time Iditarod champion.

The House Finance committee is considering hundreds of amendments to the operating budget this week and several other bills are queued up for consideration of an income tax, changes to oil tax credits, and permanent fund restructuring. February is nearly over and the State House has closed out our finance subcommittees that were tasked with taking an in-depth look at every state program. The finance subcommittee process is new this year to help the legislature work through the operating budget in a more thorough and timely manner. Next the finance committee will consider the operating budget (HB 57) with the subcommittee recommendations before it goes to the house floor and then on to the State Senate.
