March 9, 2017
JUNEAU – The Alaska Young Democrats and the Canvas invite you to the 32nd annual charity fundraiser, The Sham Jam, on Saturday March 11th at 8:00 p.m. at the Canvas Art Studio at 223 Seward Street, Juneau.
Bust out your spandex, this year’s theme is “Superheroes” and attendees are encouraged to come as their favorite. There will be a live DJ, open bar, dancing, and prizes for the best superhero costumes.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Attendees must be 21 or older. Tickets are available for purchase in offices 118, 126, 204, 216, and 418 of the Alaska State Capitol in Juneau.
Sham(rock) Jam is a long-standing charity event started by retired Senator Johnny Ellis to offer residents of Juneau, legislators, and staff the opportunity to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and give back to the community.
“I’ll be flying in from Anchorage for Sham Jam, because it is just that good,” said Senator Ellis. “I don’t miss everything about legislative session, but I won’t miss Sham Jam. That’d be crazy. We’ve got a great theme this year, and I look forward to seeing all you heroes in full regalia.”
Proceeds from Sham Jam will go to the Canvas Art Studio, which provides studio, pottery, and gallery facilities for the Juneau arts community. Their goal is to foster creativity and inclusion of adults with disabilities through shared art experiences and exhibitions. Last year’s event raised over $6,000. Bringing people into the Canvas for the event allows attendees to become familiar with the space and learn more about the program opportunities while also raising funds for the program.
