I want to take this opportunity to tell you about upcoming opportunities to affect the budget and policy moving through the Legislature. S.O.S- Save Our Schools This legislative session has seen numerous education policy bills that would significantly change our public education system. Couple this with a lack of basic funding and we are in danger of doing significant harm to our families, students, teachers and staff.

Rep Guttenberg’s Legislative Report: March 8th, 2013

Friends and Neighbors, The Legislature is well over the half way mark and we are in a sprint to the finish. There is still a lot to do before we adjourn April 14th. Oil taxes, a gas line, LNG trucking and the capital budget will probably steal the show at the end. The Operating Budget will be on the House Floor this next week and I am preparing amendments that focus on education and health and social services.

Friends and Neighbors, The 27th Alaska State Legislature is finally over. Marilyn, Lily the Great Pyrenees and I have returned home to Fairbanks. We are taking advantage of this good weather and trying to get our garden ready. I am working on a print newsletter that should be ready soon, to give you a look at what happened this year in Juneau. Rep. Guttenberg’s Legislative Report: Legislature Passes Bill to Speed Up Return of Property Held as Evidence

Friends and Neighbors, Less than three weeks remain in the 27th Legislative Session and we still have many big issues in front of us. This week the House Finance Committee will focus on education funding and shortfalls. The Senate Finance Committee has been working on the Capital Budget and we hope that bill will be coming over to the House so that we have adequate time to work on our additions.

Rep. David Guttenberg’s Legislative Report: Budget, Olnes and Goldstream Lights

Thank you to everyone who testified on the FY 13 Operating budget. The FY13 Operating Budget passed the House last night. Now it will be transferred to the Senate, where the Senate Finance Committee will make their own additions and deletions. I am sorry to say that the Republican Majority in House Finance has dissolved ANGDA in the operating budget via an amendment.
