WEEKLY UPDATE

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Talking with Rep. Stutes on the floor during an at-ease.
Talking with Rep. Stutes on the floor
during an at-ease.

It’s been another great and exciting week here in the Capitol. We continue to work hard to find solutions to our fiscal crisis while keeping our state going in a positive direction. At this point in the session we’re seeing some of our ideas gaining traction. Our bills are advancing through the committee process on their way to the floor. Being a member of the new majority, I’m proud to see a number of my own bills moving forward.

Andy’s Wildlife Week

I’ve already been fairly busy this session, but this week is going to be a wild week for me. My bills on protecting dogs and kids from traps, (HB 40), adding nonconsumptive users to the Board of Game (HB 39), andcreating a no kill zone for wolves around Denali will all be heard. These bills are important in preserving our beautiful state for all to enjoy. I am excited to testify in their support this week. If you too would like to call in to testify, please call my office at (907)465-4939 and we’ll set you up.

Line-of-Duty Survivors’ Benefits Bill

I was proud to have sponsored a bill that would give the spouses and children of deceased, line-of-duty police and firefighters continuing health insurance coverage, if a work hazard was the cause of the first responders’ death.  This bill was heard in the House Finance Committee.

Managing Our Resources

As co-chair of the House Resources Committee, I’m now in a better position to positively influence how Alaska’s resources are managed on behalf of Alaskans. I’m proud to say that we are currently in the process of rolling new Oil and Gas legislation out of our committee. This legislation will be designed to maximize the benefits to Alaskans in the long term, and help us out of our fiscal crisis now.

Save the date!

While I’m always happy to discuss your issues over the phone or by email, I will be coming to town in a few weeks. Saturday, February 25 from 10am to 12pm I will be joined by Rep. Drummond and Sen. Gardner at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office for a town-hall style meeting.

Your ideas!

I look forward to receiving your thoughts on any of these issues, as it is you, my constituents, that guide every step I take toward a better Alaska.

Thank you and have a great week!

I Answer to You!

Sincerely,

Andy Josephson[signed]
