Dear Friends & Neighbors:

Today, the House passed out a budget that prioritized education, public safety, and included a $1600 PFD. This budget adjusts for inflation and restores critical public services. It includes a $19 million restoration to the University, $942 million to inflation-proof the Permanent Fund, and $18 million for K-12 education. It puts teachers back in classrooms, State Troopers and policemen back on the roads, and increases the overall quality of public services for Alaskans.

This budget will be funded by a draw from the Permanent Fund Earning Reserves Account. The PFD amount needs to be fiscally sustainable and responsible which is why I voted to support a $1600 PFD. It is $500 higher than last year’s PFD, $600 higher than the Senate’s proposed $1000, and does not jeopardize the PFD’s future value. The budget will now be passed over to the Senate where they will go through the same process we did. I hope that they prioritize Alaskans and stay away from dangerous cuts to our public services. It is time to stop harming Alaskans through cuts and start investing in Alaskans instead.

Best Regards,
