Back On The Job!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Spenard Corridor design

Week one of Alaska’s 30th State Legislature is officially in the books! The election of Rep. Bryce Edgmon of Dillingham as the first Alaska Native Speaker of the House and passing the torch to the new Alaska House Majority Coalition went honored to be sworn in by Lieutenant Governor Byron Mallott with my friends and colleagues Geran Tarr, Les Gara and Andy Josephson. We spontaneously engaged in a group hug after taking the oath of office!

I have an excellent staff this session in an experienced and eager team. Joanna Schultz joins my office from the YWCA, where she worked to empower women and eliminate racism in Alaska. After living abroad for a number of years, Joanna is excited to return to her home state and become engaged in the legislative process as a session-only staffer. Joanna is staffing me for the House Resources Committee. Patrick FitzGerald is my new year-round aide and will be staffing me for the Transportation and Community and Regional Affairs committees. Patrick is originally from Talkeetna and holds a political science degree from Central University. This is his first time in Juneau and he is very excited to be doing this work. And finally, Kristin Kranendonk begins her fifth year with me as my Chief of Staff and Committee Aide to House Education of which I now am Chair.

I‘m delighted to be following my passion as Chair of the Education Committee as a member of the new House majority. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to move Alaska’s public schools forward. I got my start in politics as a member of the Anchorage School Board and ever since I’ve been standing strong for public schools that will benefit all Alaskans. I am also serving on House Resources and Transportation for the first time, and continuing on Community and Regional Affairs.

Please don’t hesitate to contact my office with any concerns or comments you have. Thank you and have a wonderful week!
