NEWS: Legislators Create Alaska Innovation Caucus

JUNEAU – Recognizing the importance of ingenuity and creativity in building a strong economy, members of the Alaska State Legislature have formed a caucus centered on moving Alaska’s economy forward through innovation. The Alaska Innovation Caucus (AKIC) will foster a culture of entrepreneurship and support small business development across our state.

Rep. Guttenberg’s Newsletter: The House Passes the Operating Budget

Monday the House passed its version of the 2018 operating budget and it now goes to the Senate. The budget process this year was open and transparent. I chaired three finance subcommittees this session: Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development; Department of Natural Resources; and the University. For the first time the meetings were broadcast on 360north.org and were archived for the public to gain better access to the process.

NEWS: Alaska House Majority Coalition Supports Disaster Declaration for Opioid Epidemic

Juneau – The members of the Alaska House Majority Coalition commend Governor Walker for his decision to sign a disaster declaration for the worsening opioid epidemic in Alaska. The disaster declaration allows a statewide program under the direction of Alaska’s Chief Medical Officer to facilitate the distribution of the life-saving drug naloxone, which is used to revive overdose victims. Earlier today, Governor Walker signed an Administrative Order that sets up an Incident Command System and directs all state departments to apply for federal grants to respond to the opioid epidemic.

Rep. Guttenberg’s Newsletter: Reaction to President Trump’s executive order

Just days ago, President Trump issued an executive order severely restricting immigration from seven Muslim majority countries, freezing refugee admission for 120 days, and indefinitely barringall Syrian refugees. While walking up the capitol steps this morning, I was greeted by a large group of protestors. They were rightfully upset at the executive order and implored me to “do something!” about it.
