Tues, July 10: Picnic at Kiana Park in Fairbanks!

This summer in Fairbanks, there are many opportunities for fun and recreation! The days are already getting shorter, so get out there and take advantage of all that Interior Alaska has to offer. The Chena River State Recreation Area is one of the best opportunities for fishing, hiking and camping in all of Alaska and it is right in our backyard! Denali National Park is just down the road and America’s largest national park, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, is a day trip away. One of my favorite weekend adventures is to bike or drive across the Denali Highway, or you can rent a public use cabin from the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation or the Department of Fish and Game.

Celebrating Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day! This year, we're celebrating the Fourth while having a great deal of division in the country. I hear the concerns from neighbors who worry about violence, racism, and misogyny here in Alaska and across the country. We can't let that happen. Let’s work together to uplift the community while celebrating the signing of the declaration of independence! If you're planning on hosting a gathering, here are a few tips to ensure the best time possible while celebrating the Fourth of July and being as welcoming and inclusive as possible.

Neighborhood Updates: Roads, Rezones, Summer Fun & More!

Attention neighbors! In case you haven't already heard, a request to rezone the lot at the corner of Arlene and Dimond (across from Skinny Raven) will soon be heard by the Planning & Zoning Commission. The request is to rezone the 6.2 acre lot from a "mixed residential" to a "residential mixed-use" district, allowing compact condos/apartments to be built on top of stores and offices (and at higher density).

Rep Dan Ortiz: Session Successes

Session has ended, and I am happy to be back in the district! One of my primary goals during interim is to hear from YOU. I want to hear how you think I am doing, what I can do better, and ideas for future laws. I work to write, sponsor, and pass legislation that I think will be beneficial to District 36, and your suggestions guide me to do that.
