NEWS: Energy Efficiency Legislation Approved By the Alaska House of Representatives

Juneau – The Alaska House of Representatives has passed legislation sponsored by Representative Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks) to help lower energy costs for commercial property owners. House Bill 80 establishes a process for cities and boroughs to create a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing mechanism to cover loans for alternative energy and energy efficiency improvements.

NEWS: New Leadership Results in Tangible Cost Savings in the Alaska House of Representatives

Juneau – As lawmakers grapple with how to fill a $3 billion budget gap, the Alaska House Majority Coalition has instituted several cost-saving measures within the Alaska House of Representatives. The largest such measure is to roll-back the level of staff pay that existed under the previous House Majority Caucus. The Legislative Affairs Agency anticipates savings of more than $270,000 compared to last year’s staff compensation.

Speaker Edgmon’s Jan. 20th Newsletter

The first session of the 30th Alaska State Legislature convened on Tuesday, with the House under the leadership of the new Alaska House Majority Coalition. During the opening floor session it was my great honor to be officially elected Speaker of the House. I also take great pride and a profound feeling of responsibility in being the first House Speaker of Alaska Native descent. As I said during our inaugural session, I hope to be the first in a long line of Alaska Native Speakers.
