Greetings from Juneau this 28th day of session. On Friday the House Finance committee introduced HB 115 State Revenue Restructuring Act, which aims to fill the deficit in a way that is fair and balanced to Alaskans. This bill addresses three of the four pillars of the House Majority Coalition Plan to build a sustainable future for our state; a structured draw from the permanent fund earnings reserve, new revenue from a broad-based tax, and a sustainable dividend amount. The fourth pillar constrains state spending by making smart budget cuts and reducing the state’s oil and gas tax credit subsidies.

NEWS: House Finance Committee Introduces Fiscal Framework

Juneau – Today, the House Finance committee introduced House Bill 115, the State Revenue Restructuring Act, which combines revenue from the earnings of the Permanent Fund and a progressive income tax to establish a stable and balanced revenue stream fair to all Alaskans.

Rep. Seaton’s February 6th Newsletter

Greetings from Juneau this 21st day of session. This week I took part in two panels focused on Alaska’s fiscal situation. The first, held by Alaska Common Ground, was nearly three hours long and included members of the House, the Senate, and the executive branch. All the panelists seemed to agree that we should act this year, but what that action would look like and how much of the fiscal problem it should address was not so unanimous.

NEWS: House Finance Committee Bypasses Budget Savings and New Revenue by Continuing Unsustainable Subsidies for the Oil and Gas Industry

Juneau – Tonight, the House Finance Committee passed out House Bill 247 sponsored by Alaska Governor Bill Walker. The version of the bill approved by the committee is substantially different than the version of the bill put forward by Governor Walker. The new version of the bill includes less than half of the savings anticipated in the original bill.
