NEWS: House Finance Committee Seeks Public Comments on Senate Bill 54

Juneau – The House Finance Committee will meet on Saturday and Monday to accept public testimony on Senate Bill 54, making additional reforms to Alaska’s criminal justice system. The bill passed the House Judiciary Committee late Thursday night and has been referred to the House Finance Committee.

NEWS: Committee Meetings Scheduled to Examine Public Safety in Alaska

Anchorage – The Finance Committee in the Alaska House of Representatives has scheduled a series of budget subcommittee meetings to discuss the nexus between crime rates and available public resources in Alaska. The budget subcommittees for the Departments of Public Safety, Administration, Corrections, and Law will meet on October 5th at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office (LIO).

On Thursday the legislature gaveled themselves back in for the third special session and passed the FY18 capital budget (SB 23). This year’s capital budget is the smallest since 2000 according to the Legislative Finance reports available online, but it leverages $1.2 billion in federal funds to keep our roads, highways, and water systems in working order.

Greetings on this the 25th day of the second special session. We had a sunny Independence Day last week in Anchor Point and Homer and lots of people turned out to watch the parades. I was also pleased to be on the Coffee Table last Wednesday to discuss items such as the budget and oil and gas reform.
