NEWS: Rep. Kawasaki to Host Town Hall Meeting this Weekend

JUNEAU – Representative Scott Kawasaki will host a town hall meeting in Fairbanks on Sunday February 23 in the Noel Wien Library from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Kawasaki invites Fairbanksans to a discussion on a variety issues including the proposed AK LNG gas line project, education funding, and the cost of energy.

These supporters were asking for an adequate increase to the Base Student Allocation (BSA). Juneau Note from Rep. Kawasaki: Alaska’s Last Territorial Governor

Alaska lost a hero from the battle for statehood today. Territorial Governor Mike Stepovich of Fairbanks passed away last night surrounded by family. He served in the House, the Senate and was appointed by President Eisenhower to the post of Governor in 1957. He was a family man and an accomplished attorney. But the greatest legacy that can be shared, and today mourned, by every Alaskan was his steadfast advocacy in the efforts of Alaska to gain statehood. RIP Governor.

Keeping with tradition, the first day was not without some surprises, Representative Beth Kerttula resigning her seat to take a fellowship on ocean policy at Stanford University. Beth has been a great leader, colleague and friend and we will all miss her dearly.

I often write about the warmth and generosity of our community and believe that we live up to our title of “The Golden Heart City”. There are dozens of worthy charitable organizations, churches and groups that help those in need. They need our support year round and especially during the holiday season.
