NEWS: House Finance Committee Seeks Public Comments on Senate Bill 54

Juneau – The House Finance Committee will meet on Saturday and Monday to accept public testimony on Senate Bill 54, making additional reforms to Alaska’s criminal justice system. The bill passed the House Judiciary Committee late Thursday night and has been referred to the House Finance Committee.

NEWS: House Health and Social Services Committee to Examine Omnibus Crime Bill Justice Reinvestment Provisions

Juneau – The House Health and Social Services Committee will hold a hearing Thursday afternoon related to the Alaska Legislature’s ongoing efforts at criminal justice reform. Specifically, the committee will examine the implementation of provisions in last year’s omnibus crime bill to reinvest savings into resources to help those struggling with substance abuse.

Last weekend, I attended a ceremony in New York City honoring my late Uncle, Officer David Guttenberg. He was a decorated police officer who gave his life in the line of duty. A street was officially renamed after him to honor his sacrifice.
