NEWS: Rep. Drummond Files Legislation to Protect Alaskans Internet Privacy

Juneau – Today, Representative Harriet Drummond (D-Anchorage) introduced legislation to prohibit certain telecommunications and internet service providers from collecting personal information without express written approval from the customer. House Bill 230 will help customers know how their personal data is being used and will give people a chance to opt out of that data collection.

NEWS: Alaska Legislature Votes to Improve Access to Digital Assets

Juneau – Today, the Alaska Senate voted unanimously to pass legislation which updates Alaska’s probate laws to improve fiduciary access to digital assets. HB 108, sponsored by Representative Matt Claman (D-Anchorage), allows Alaskans to plan ahead for the posthumous management of their digital assets in the same way they can make plans for more tangible personal property.

NEWS: Alaska House Seeks to Extend Workers Compensation to the Organized Militia

Juneau – The Alaska House of Representatives today unanimously approved legislation to extend workers compensation coverage to members of Alaska’s organized militia. Members of the Alaska State Defense Force are covered by workers compensation when ordered into active state service, however, that protection does not extend during training exercises.

NEWS: Health Care Price Transparency Passes Alaska House

Juneau – Earlier today, the Alaska House of Representative passed legislation to empower consumers by requiring health care providers and facilities to post a list of the prices for the most commonly provided procedures. House Bill 123, sponsored by Representative Ivy Spohnholz, requires health care providers to post health care price information in their public reception areas and online. They would also be required to provide that information to the State of Alaska, which will make it available on the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services’ website.

NEWS: Alaska House Wants to Keep the Kodiak Seafood and Marine Science Center Open

Juneau – The Alaska House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging the University of Alaska to keep the Kodiak Seafood and Marine Science Center open to support Alaska’s vital seafood industry. House Concurrent Resolution 8 was put forward by the House Special Committee on Fisheries, chaired by Representative Louise Stutes (R-Kodiak).
