NEWS: Rep. Tarr Will Participate in National Voter Registration Day Activities Today

Resources Available to Assist Alaskans in Registering to Vote

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 27, 2016

Anchorage – Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) will participate in National Voter Registration Day events today by helping Anchorage area residents with the registration process. Rep. Tarr will lead registration events today in Mountain View and Airport Heights.

“There is nothing more important to our democracy than the power of the vote, but you can’t vote if you are not properly registered,” said Rep. Tarr. “I’m excited some of my neighbors have stepped up to host events today encouraging Alaskans to get registered. I plan on joining the thousands of volunteers across the country that will be out on National Voter Registration Day making sure that people don’t give up their precious vote just because they didn’t take the time to get registered.”

Rep. Tarr will assist Anchorage area residents in registering to vote today at the Red Apple store in Mountain View from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and at the Carrs-Safeway at the Northway Mall from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Hundreds of voter registration events are planned nationwide today as part of National Voter Registration Day. Volunteers will be encouraging voter registration through one-on-one discussions, social media and traditional media campaigns, and expanded voter registration opportunities.

“The men and women we elect to public office in Alaska and nationwide are chosen to represent all the people. However, the low voter turnout we have seen recently results in just a few of us making the choices for everyone. That’s not the kind of democracy I and other voter registration advocates want, which is why we will be out today encouraging everyone to register to vote,” said Rep. Tarr.

Information on registering to vote in Alaska can be found on the Alaska Division of Elections website.
