Today, Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) released the following statement after attending the Attorney General’s press conference on the Jerry Active case.
“What we learned today is troubling. What I heard was that there are gaps in our sentencing and plea bargain system. We need to continue to review every detail of this case.”
“I remain committed to supporting the family, and learning every detail of this case so we can prevent a crime like this from ever happening again. I was encouraged to learn that Attorney General Geraghty is conducting an internal review at the Department of Law and that Department of Corrections Commissioner Joe Schmidt has called for a full audit of Mr. Active’s time in custody. Should legislation be necessary, I hope to work with the Attorney General’s office and the Department of Corrections to address this.”
