Juneau – Recognizing that Alaska’s fiscal gap can’t be reduced through budget cuts alone, members of the Alaska House Majority Coalition today introduced legislation to increase revenue to address Alaska’s $2.5 billion funding gap. House Bill 288 increases Alaska’s oil and gas minimum tax from four percent to seven percent, which would raise approximately $225 million.
News: Rep. Kito Proposes Term Limits for the Alaska Legislature
Juneau – Representative Sam Kito III (D-Juneau) pre-filed a resolution on Friday seeking to amend the Alaska Constitution to impose term limits for members of the Alaska Legislature. If approved, House Joint Resolution 27 would place a Constitutional Amendment before the voters of Alaska.
Anchorage – Representative Gabrielle LeDoux (R-Anchorage) issued the following statement in response to a press release from Rep. Tammie Wilson calling for her resignation and objecting to sexual harassment training for all lawmakers and staff. Rep. LeDoux has mandated the training to ensure a safe and respectful workplace in the Alaska Legislature.
Anchorage – Representative Les Gara (D-Anchorage) and Facing Foster Care in Alaska founder Amanda Metivier are launching their holiday drive to bring more laptops to foster youth so they can succeed in school and life. Rep. Gara and Metivier, both former foster youth, founded the Laptops for Foster Youth effort at the suggestion of many youth who faced barriers to success, including the lack of computers and internet access needed for schoolwork.

Happy Holidays! Before the New Year I want to share with you my vision for this upcoming legislative session. The Governor released his FY 2019 budget proposal on Friday, December 15. We are beginning to analyze it to see how it fits with our goals, especially education funding.
