Things have moved quickly here in Juneau and yesterday a compromise bill on public safety was passed by the joint Conference Committee of three members from the House and three members from the Senate. We literally have a few day break while the staff at the Legislative Legal Department drafts the bill. When HB 49 was passed quickly out of the Senate there were some errors in the bill and now that we are in the final version of the bill it is critical that many eyes approve this almost 100 page document.

Busy week! Budget week in the House, Rape Kit Reform and Suicide Prevention Council bill hearings

It’s going to be a very busy week in the legislature this week. This week the House will have the budget on the floor. This could take several days as we do not know at this time how many amendments will be offered by members. There were over 100 amendments offered in the House Finance Committee over several days and the same thing may happen on the floor.

The Budget that Broke Alaskans’ Hearts…

What a week it has been. On day 31 of the 31st legislature we elected Rep. Bryce Edgmon as Speaker of the House. This has been an unusual start to a session and I know at times frustrating to watch. With the budget coming out this week I think you can see why the stakes are so high this session.
