Greetings from Juneau on this 112th day of the session. Primary components for reaching an adjournment agreement are getting closer as progress was made on several key pieces this week. I was honored to attend the signing of my bill, HB 287- Early K-12 Education Funding and Student Transportation last week with the Governor, students, and fellow lawmakers. Bill to Early Fund Public Education in Alaska Signed Into Law

Juneau – Earlier today, Alaska Governor Bill Walker was joined by members of the Alaska Legislature and dozens of elementary school students for the official signing ceremony for legislation to early fund Alaska’s K-12 public education system. The signing ceremony for House Bill 287 was held at the Harborview Elementary School in Juneau. HB 287 authorizes the State of Alaska to spend $1.3 billion for K-12 education and student transportation. The bill was introduced at the beginning of the Second Session of the 30th Alaska State Legislature by House Finance Committee Co-Chair Rep. Paul Seaton (R-Homer). HB 287 was co-sponsored by 22 State Representatives and 12 Senators.

Greetings from Juneau on this 105th day of the session. Spring has definitely come to the capital city and legislators are anxious to get back home but the most contentious decisions are now in negotiation. The conference committees for both the operating budget HB 286, and SB 26 Approp Limit & Permanent Fund: Dividend; Earnings are formed, other members and I have been discussing priorities for our respective majority and minority caucuses….

Greetings from Juneau on this 70th day of the session. It has been an intense and busy week working on the operating budget. The House Floor budget amendment process started last Tuesday and was the House’s focus for the rest of the week. There were 84 amendments submitted, although a few were withdrawn or were ruled out of order. The floor debate has been lengthy, but it is important that everyone be heard.
