NEWS: House Passes Bill to Allow a New Type of Corporation in Alaska

Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives approved legislation to allow benefit corporations to operate in Alaska. Benefit corporations are for profit organizations that incorporate public benefits and community improvements into their business model. House Bill 124, sponsored by Representative Sam Kito (D-Juneau), would bring Alaska’s corporate law in line with thirty-one other states that have passed benefit corporation legislation.

NEWS: Alaska House Rejects Weakened Oil Subsidy Reform Bill from the Senate

Juneau – Tonight, the Alaska House of Representatives rejected changes made by the State Senate to a key piece of pending legislation to reform Alaska’s flawed system of subsidizing the oil and gas industry with tax credits. The State Senate significantly weakened House Bill 111, which passed the House last month.

NEWS: House Approves Legislation to Authorizing Transportation Network Companies in Alaska

Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives passed House Bill 132 “An Act relating to transportation network companies and transportation network company drivers.” The legislation, sponsored by Representative Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks), would pave the way for TNCs like Lyft and Uber to begin operating in Alaska communities.

NEWS: House Moves Toward REAL ID Act Compliance

Juneau – Tonight, the Alaska House of Representatives passed House Bill 74 to give the Alaska Department of Administration authority to adopt regulations to comply with the Federal REAL ID Act. The bill was sponsored by the House Rules committee at the request of Governor Walker, and carried on the House floor by Representative Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks).

NEWS: Alaska Legislature Passes Legislation to Ensure Safe Standards for Eye Care

Juneau – Today, the Alaska State Senate joined the Alaska House of Representatives in approving legislation to update state statutes and standards for optometrists and ophthalmologists. House Bill 103, sponsored by Representative Ivy Spohnholz (D-Anchorage), allows the Board of Examiners of Optometry to use their professional expertise to regulate their profession in Alaska similar to how other professions are regulated. Additionally, the bill allows the board to set continuing education requirements for licensees in Alaska.
